February is the month of love and I think most of us would agree that we all love saving money. Since tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, I thought I would share some of my top tips for Dating On a Dime. I did a few TV and radio segments this past week on this very topic. The good news is these tips go past Valentine’s Day and are smart ways to save money while enjoying a date night anytime and with anyone, even yourself! '
One of my favorite tips; you will usually pay much less when ordering from a lunch menu instead of a dinner menu. So, order earlier in the day, refrigerate and reheat for dinner. Just ask for any dressing on the side and add it yourself later. And travel to another country by creating a virtual experience. Let’s say you want to experience Italy while enjoying some pasta and wine. Find free operas online and escape. You can also find free dance and cooking lessons online. The best part is you can find things to do from other parts of the country, or even other countries. Learn to salsa dance from someone in Spain. The virtual world has its perks.
If you want a last minute gift that is meaningful and inexpensive, create a book of quotes & sayings you love. It’s as simple as grabbing a blank journal and filling the pages. Leave some pages for the recipient to add some of their own favorites. People love getting personalized gifts like these.
You can find more tips for dating on a dime, family entertainment and thousands of other money-saving tips in my book, The Joy of $aving: Money Lessons I Learned From My Italian-American Father & 20 Years As a Consumer Reporter Available on Amazon.
